Nevada County Figurative Art
Joyfully Struggling with Form, Light and Line
For over 50 years we've met every week to draw. Artists at all levels are welcome. Come join us.
Who Are We
We are a group of people who’ve been drawing the figure for many years. See Our Story. Presently we meet Saturday mornings by arrangement.
We’ve been a private group all these years, more by circumstance than design. We have recognized recently a demand from people to draw the figure, and so we find ourselves opening up to the larger public.
What Are We Doing
Our group loves to draw the figure, a tradition that’s been around for centuries. The model is typically unclothed and the poses last from one minute through to 20 minutes. Most of us are aiming to capture the gesture in a pose.
What we do is practice! Practice sharpens eye hand coordination, helps us draw lines and shapes with conviction, and reflects assurance over time.
We are serious in our focus, very respectful of our models and expect all participants to bring the same attitude to the group.
Why Do We Draw
Each of us would answer that differently but it’s safe to say we all feel called to use our time in this way. After focusing and drawing for three hours no matter how successful the result, one feels energized and experiences a sense of satisfaction.
How to Join Us
If you wish to join us you are welcome. Please contact us at info@gofigurenc.org. We send out an email during the week to announce we are drawing and request people confirm if they are attending. You’ll need to provide your email.
Please note at this time we do not provide instruction. Each participant would need to feel comfortable finding their own way if inexperienced. Most people with experience will be familiar with our process.
We draw from 10am to 1pm every Saturday. The cost is $15 per session. We pay the model $75. We have few easels so if you have a portable/collapsible easel please bring it. You’ll need to bring your own drawing materials too.
